The students worked hard this week on their research projects in their respective labs. In 'Workshop Wednesday' they learned about giving scientific presentations, and began initial preparations for their final poster exhibit.

To end the week on a high note, the REU participants and PIs attended a Community Work Day at Hookuaaina at Kapalai. There, everyone spent hours in deep mud, pulling out parts of trees and bushes for a new lo‘i. A hard day's work was rewarded with an excellent pot of luau stew, with fresh poi made from taro grown on-site. Quite an experience for everyone, and one we hope we can do again.
