During week 6, participants used 'Workshop Wednesday' to continue working on their posters for the final Poster Exhibition. Week 7 was spent on an in-depth discussion about preparing for and applying to graduate school. Drs. Donachie, Reed and Porter also provided input on what they look for in applications, and what kinds of information is most helpful to them while the read applications.

To conclude week 7, the REU participants toured the Hawai‘i Institute of Marine Biology (HIMB) research facilities at Coconut Island in Kāneʻohe Bay. That included seeing the sharks! Everyone then joined Dr. Anuschka Faucci from the Department of Biology to snorkel in the waters around HIMB. Thankfully, nobody reported seeing a shark...
