We spent the day snorkeling and touring Moku o Lo‘e (Coconut Island), which is a Hawaiʻi Institute of Marine Biology research facility. We started off the day snorkeling right off one of the island's docks and got to learn about different sea life and species of coral. During lunch we had a chance to try to identify some of the fish that we saw in a book given to us by our guide. After that, we got a tour of the labs on the island, got a brief introduction on what each lab is studying, and had time to read some posters from each lab. We got to see all kinds of little sea creatures in the touch tank, the pool where one lab keeps sharks to study, and coral nursery tanks. Overall it was a hot, but incredibly informative and fun experience.
